Aucune chance de confondre ce danseur avec un autre, ou de mal identifier son travail : Thomas Lebrun cultive avec goût ses particularités physiques hors des canons, tout en développant son appétit pour le spectaculaire, l’illusion et la transformation. Très ancré dans la région Nord-Pas-de-Calais, il a déployé un répertoire allant de la forme cabaret au solo, du show à paillettes au rendez-vous plus intimiste. Il y a quelques années, il rencontrait la chorégraphe brésilienne Flavia Tapias, et lui offrait de se coller à son univers à travers un solo. Depuis, la collaboration avec le Gruppo Tapias s’est développée avec un quintet chorégraphié par Thomas pour l’année de la France au Brésil. C’est là qu’il rencontre le danseur Alexandre Bado, qui se blesse lors de la dernière. Parfois, le corps n’a pas de cœur est né de cette histoire : écrit pour Alexandre dans l’écrin du Jardin de la Vierge, ce solo reprend à son compte la jeunesse et la virtuosité de ce corps rompu à la danse et au cirque, qui donne tout jusqu’à s’oublier lui-même. En filigrane, un Brésil comme un décor trop rude…
Sans oublier l’humour et la provocation
Invité à l’occasion de l’opération Nord-Pas-de-Calais en Avignon, Thomas Lebrun montre ici les différentes facettes de son travail. Récemment, il avait mis de côté le strass et le clinquant pour composer un programme intitulé La Constellation consternée : cinq pièces courtes centrées sur l’image de l’étoile, et les différentes notions qui peuvent s’en dégager (la gloire, l’espoir, la croyance, la fierté…). Très abstraites, ces propositions reposent fortement sur l’engagement des interprètes et les états de corps qui les traversent. Mention spéciale à Raphaël Cottin et Anne-Sophie Lancelin qui se jettent corps et âme dans une danse sensible et envoûtante. Pour comprendre le grand écart dont est capable Thomas Lebrun, il faut le voir dans Many Dreams for exercising waltz : dans ce solo qui fait partie du programme Allone # 3, il incarne une certaine image de la danseuse, décalée, provocante, débordante.
