En avril dernier, Alan Curtis et son ensemble Il Complesso barocco présentaient au Théâtre des Champs-Élysées une œuvre peu connue de Haendel, Ptolémée, Roi d’Égypte (1724), sur un livret de Nicola Haym. Il reviennent aujourd’hui avec l’ouvrage composé par Domenico Scarlatti en 1711 sur le livret original de Capece dont Haym s’est par la suite inspiré. Scarlatti a composé Ptolémée et Alexandre alors qu’il occupait les fonctions de maître de chapelle auprès de la reine Marie-Casimir de Pologne. L’Opéra fut créé à Rome au Palazzo Zuccari, son thème – Alexandre devant céder sa couronne à son frère Ptolémée – est d’ailleurs une claire allusion à l’histoire des fils de la commanditaire. Deuxième de ses sept opéras, il s’agit d’une redécouverte qu’Alan Curtis mène en compagnie de Ann Hallenberg (Ptolémée), Raffaella Milanesi (Alexandre), Klara Ek, Roberta Invernizzi, Theodora Baka et Sonia Prina.
