« Tom à la ferme est une pièce sur le deuil, sur le mensonge, sur l’homophobie, mais aussi sur la famille, le secret, la ruralité, la violence… C’est une vraie pièce de vie, dans le sens où l’on assiste à un moment de vie dans lequel tous ces thèmes se croisent. L’écriture de Michel Marc Bouchard est à la fois crue et pudique. La langue est très directe. Le style est particulier, puisque le héros au milieu des répliques qu’il adresse aux autres personnages, parle aussi au défunt, cet homme qu’il aime et qui n’est plus là. Ce système d’adresse est perturbant pour le spectateur : on ne comprend pas vraiment au début si les autres personnages entendent ou non ces répliques.
Un vrai mystère
Je pense que par cette écriture particulière, Michel Marc Bouchard nous plonge dans le même chaos que celui de son personnage. J’aime tout ce qui se dit, dans Tom à la ferme, mais aussi tout ce qui ne se dit pas. Il y a dans ce texte un vrai mystère. A travers ma mise en scène, je vais essayer de retrouver et de transmettre ma première émotion de lecteur. Cela, en laissant toute leur place au texte et aux acteurs, et en mêlant les genres : on est parfois dans une farce, parfois dans une fable intimiste, parfois dans un film d’horreur… La musique sera, comme toujours dans mon travail, très présente. »
