La Comédie de Béthune / Le CENQUATRE PARIS / Texte Naomi Wallace / mise en scène Tommy Milliot
« Lorsque je rencontre Naomi Wallace au 104, à Paris, lors des représentations de sa pièce La Brèche, que j’avais créée au Festival d’Avignon, elle m’apprend qu’il s’agit de la première partie d’une trilogie sur le Kentucky. J’avais tellement aimé travailler sur ce premier texte que j’ai manifesté mon désir de monter le deuxième. L’écriture de Naomi Wallace est pour moi une écriture contemporaine majeure. Son naturalisme à la fois poétique et concret est très agréable à manier avec des acteurs. Il est très physique et ne permet pas de réflexion entre les phrases.
Une communauté à sauver
Qui a besoin du ciel se situe dans une petite ville qui pourrait être la même que celle de La Brèche. Le personnage de Wilda, accompagné d’une certaine Annette, y mène une lutte pour sauver une communauté multiethnique. Elle met en place toutes sortes de stratagèmes pour tenter de faire rouvrir une usine d’aluminium. Cette pièce n’est jamais manichéenne. Entre tragique et grotesque, elle interroge la solidarité entre les individus. Elle donne aussi à voir combien les rapports sociaux peuvent être destructeurs. »
