Médias et pouvoirs publics ont beau se pencher régulièrement sur le drame des aidants, ceux-là semblent voués à la malédiction ténébreuse de l’abandon. On sait bien pourtant que la maladie et l’accident ne touchent pas seulement ceux qui en sont les victimes directes. Il faut avoir poussé un fauteuil roulant, s’occuper d’« un enfant à jamais », comme le chante si bien Lynda Lemay, tenu la main d’un dialysé ou d’un cancéreux, pour savoir que ceux qui entourent le malade sont malades avec lui, et que l’accidenté n’est pas le seul à être blessé. La toute jeune Madame X, héroïne de la pièce de Tatiana Spivakova, est de ceux-là. Elle s’agite autour du corps inerte de Monsieur X, dont le cerveau a été endommagé par un accident de la circulation. Elle accroche des grigris dans sa chambre d’hôpital, noircit des carnets, dialogue avec la fontaine à eau de la salle d’attente, doit supporter la menace de l’arrêt des traitements de l’homme aimé devenu légume, et endurer la fausse compassion des amis, soulagés d’être à distance, même s’ils sont proches. Seuls ceux qui ont été successivement malades et aidants peuvent s’autoriser à le dire : il est plus facile d’être celui qui souffre que celui qui assiste. Comment Madame X, à qui Hayet Darwich prête sa beauté, sa souplesse déliée et son talent frémissant, le pourrait-elle ? Elle est trop jeune pour savoir ce que c’est qu’être mort ou quasi. L’extériorité du témoin la condamne à l’oblation, que la société trouve toujours naturelle, et il paraît scandaleux qu’elle envisage de s’enfuir.

Tatiana Spivakova tâche de dire cette situation intolérable, si difficile à signifier sans paraître un monstre d’égoïsme. Pour y parvenir, elle convoque Mahmoud Darwich. La figure du poète en exil devient présence salvatrice, et le théâtre met en miroir le patient et l’étranger. Le texte de la pièce mêle les deux écritures, celle de l’écrivain citoyen poétique, et celle, prosaïque et souvent très drôle, par laquelle Tatiana Spivakova reproduit les mots de la brutalité administrative, qui parle des corps sans considération pour les esprits, surtout quand ils sont, comme celui de Monsieur X, aux abonnés absents. Maly Diallo et Luana Duchemin s’emparent avec virtuosité de cette langue qui ne pense pas, qu’elle soit celle du compte rendu médical ou du grotesque protocole compassionnel. Alexandre Ruby, Raymond Hosny et Yacir Rami complètent la distribution. Le chant et le oud expriment l’indicible des joies passées, de la tristesse sans fond, de l’angoisse du lendemain sans avenir, de la tragédie du survivant. On pense à Primo Levi, affirmant que « sur le plan moral, civil et politique, raconter, témoigner est un devoir. » Quand on a vécu la catastrophe, il n’y a pas d’autre issue que de partir ou de faire une œuvre. Tatiana Spivakova choisit la seconde voie. Son courage, son intelligence et sa sensibilité forcent le respect.
