Le solo du comédien Jacques Brücher fait vivre un chœur familial, le noyau dur de tout foyer originel. Mince, grave, voix masculine du terroir – c’est le père ; voix féminine un rien suraiguë – c’est la mère ; voix neutre ou blanche – c’est le fils Frédéric, le narrateur, qui raconte ses jeunes années dans la sphère parentale. Chacun est rivé à ses soucis et la libre parole ne circule guère d’un membre à l’autre de la famille, notamment entre le père et le fils qui aura dû attendre la mort maternelle pour qu’il puisse enfin entreprendre un semblant de conversation avec son géniteur, au lieu du silence habituel. Le fils dévoué accompagne le père jusqu’à sa mort, durant neuf autres années encore. Auparavant, la complicité entre les deux mâles sous un même toit est impossible. La vie est rude au jour le jour, et le sentiment d’insatisfaction est entretenu malgré soi, d’où les disputes, les réprimandes et l’expression âcre des petites amertumes. Le père, maniaque et collectionneur de papiers et sacs plastiques, s’attarde sur une anecdote scatologique, les toilettes se salissent la nuit et c’est le fils – responsable de tous les maux – qui est soupçonné d’inattention, de négligence et de manque d’hygiène. La mère minimise les dégâts tandis que le père les exacerbe, à la fois tyran et martyr.
Les situations dégagent un sentiment loufoque d’absurde.
Pour le fils, les parents sont un couple d’araignées qui enserrent leur progéniture dans la toile de la mère. Avec un naturel spontané, Brücher passe au crible l’échantillonnage des rôles particuliers, d’une génération à l’autre, de la maturité à l’adolescence, d’un membre de la famille à la voisine d’à côté, du masculin au féminin. Le va-et-vient entre passé et présent provoque un rire en sourdine jamais grossier car les situations dégagent un sentiment loufoque d’absurde. Tous les êtres sont insupportables, tels des enfants gâtés et de mauvaise foi en train de rechigner. Le père dit d’ailleurs ne pas aimer les enfants, une violence que le fils craint de reprendre à son compte après l’avoir éprouvée lui-même. Appel de la petite amie au téléphone qui voudrait plus de marques d’affection, grognements du père, le fils ne sait où donner de la tête. Le spectacle dégage à n’en pas douter de la tendresse pour le foyer d’antan, nostalgie de l’enfance et langueur face à la fuite du temps malgré les petites souffrances au jour le jour et les remontrances injustes. Dos tourné au spectateur, Brücher boit son thé à sa table : on aurait aimé moins de tristesse grise et de rudesse – fût-elle spécifiquement lorraine et sociale – et plus d’ouverture sur le monde, d’élan coloré et de gourmandise.
