Dans Tourbillons, une femme parle (incarnée par Donatienne Michel-Dansac). Elle soliloque, s’adressant à la fois à elle-même et à des êtres que l’on ne voit pas, des êtres qui n’existent probablement pas. Georges Aperghis dit de cette femme qu’elle est un peu folle, bien qu’elle n’ait pas de psychologie particulière et qu’elle ne soit pas interprétée comme s’il s’agissait d’un personnage de théâtre. C’est pour la voix de cette figure singulière que le compositeur et metteur en scène a demandé à Olivier Cadiot d’écrire un texte. Un texte dont les neuf parties viennent s’intercaler, comme des récitatifs, entre des pièces musicales créées par Georges Aperghis il y a près de 20 ans. De montées en dépressions, d’élans déstabilisateurs en pensées monomaniaques, ce « monologue psychosomatique » prend ainsi part à une forme de spectacle-portrait : le portrait « d’une chanteuse-comédienne seule face à ses partitions et à ses textes, face à ses rêveries et à la difficulté de son art ».
