Deux artistes aux histoires très différentes se sont réunis pour créer la compagnie Lina. Namrata Pamnani est indienne ; elle s’est formée à la danse classique du Nord de l’Inde (le Kathak) ; elle est aussi chanteuse, spécialisée dans la musique hindoue. Lionel Dentan est suisse. Musicien, il joue de divers instruments, et tout particulièrement du sitar : il étudie la musique classique hindousthani depuis douze ans, tout en continuant de travailler dans le champ des musiques électroniques. Ils ont créé ensemble une compagnie qui se veut totalement respectueuse des traditions et de la spiritualité indiennes, tout en s’ouvrant au changement et à l’exploration de nouveaux médias. Tradition 2 Transition, qu’ils présentent à Avignon, évoque ainsi l’histoire de l’Inde, de l’ère Mughal à l’époque actuelle. La chorégraphie, fondée sur les Mudras de Natyashastra, est empreinte de mysticisme et de références au rôle sacré de la danse. Accompagnée par deux musiciens, elle s’ancre dans un univers sonore traditionnel et électronique, interprété en direct sur tabla, sitar, rebub et ordinateur.
