Ils sont dix-huit. Neuf femmes et neuf hommes. Nus. Ils marchent vers nous puis se retournent sur un rythme identique. Obstiné. Avec la puissance que contient cette simple marche et la force dramatique qui s’en dégage. La répétition absolue et sans merci d’un même mouvement, enchaîné sans cesse, sur une musique percussive et quasi tribale de François Caffenne ne laisse aucune place à l’individu. Et pourtant, au fil du temps, l’identité résiste, la présence de chacun des interprètes s’impose malgré l’implacable défilé, à la fois monotone et glorieux. Une foule en marche qui se transforme en houle, avec ses mouvements de ressac. Mais dès que la ligne se brise le chaos surgit. La musique s’exaspère en rafales ravageuses, les corps se tordent, sauvages, explosifs, dans cette Tragédie de la vie. Créée en Avignon en 2012, la pièce garde non seulement toute son acuité, mais gagne presque en actualité sous la pression des événements de 2022. C’est une vraie chance de pouvoir la revoir aujourd’hui, et de relire ce condensé d’humanité que nous offre Olivier Dubois.
