Au sein de la Trilogie de la villégiature, Carlo Goldoni dépeint les aventures d’une petite bourgeoisie choisissant de se ruiner pour imiter le mode de vie de la classe aristocratique. Intrigues, mensonges, retournements de situations… C’est sur une proposition du Piccolo Teatro que Toni Servillo (cofondateur du collectif napolitain Teatri Uniti) a mis en scène cette comédie piquante (il en est également l’un des interprètes). Défendant l’idée « d’un théâtre offert en partage au public », d’un « théâtre sans pesanteur intellectuelle, sans arrogance stylistique avec, au centre de la représentation, un très grand travail d’acteurs »*, le metteur en scène a élaboré un spectacle virevoltant aux accents très classiques. Un spectacle qui mêle humour, intensité et élégance pour rejoindre l’un des enseignements de Giorgio Strehler : envisager le théâtre avant tout comme une fête, une fête des sens et de l’esprit.
