Toutes très différentes, les pièces présentées lors de ce programme spécial à Sceaux ont de quoi susciter la curiosité, mais pas la surprise, tant la signature de la chorégraphe américaine est devenue une évidence. Ce n’est pas pour autant une raison de se priver de l’événement que constitue sa venue en France. Après Merce Cunningham en mars puis Martha Graham le mois dernier, la dernière heure des géants américains n’est pas encore venue. A plus de soixante-dix ans, la chorégraphe, tout comme ses collègues, conserve son répertoire, des pièces qui sont le reflet d’une conquête pour la liberté de la danse, et qui, pas à pas, ont représenté chacune une avancée incontestable dans la constitution d’une œuvre au sens large du terme. C’est le cas par exemple pour If you couldn’t see me, solo emblématique de la chorégraphe qu’elle a ici transmis à une danseuse de sa compagnie.
L’expressivité première de la danse dans un solo remarquable
Emblématique car il représentait à l’époque (1994) une reprise de la forme solo, que la chorégraphe avait abandonnée pour elle-même depuis 1979. Une envie irrépressible de reprendre la parole, dans une forme tout à fait surprenante : entièrement dansé de dos, ce solo tout en ondulations et en torsions donnait à voir ce qui habituellement restait caché. Très ludique et amusante, la Spanish dance constitue un morceau mémorable des travaux de recherche de la Trisha Brown des années 70. Sur une chanson interprétée par Bob Dylan, cette courte pièce était constituée d’un mouvement d’emboîtement des danseurs, sorte de marche en déhanchement les bras levés, jusqu’à former une chenille humaine. Une forme d’accumulation très soft que la chorégraphe a pu décliner par la suite sous de nombreux modes. Les deux autres pièces du programme montrent l’attachement de Trisha Brown à la musique. Dans Foray Forêt, c’est celle d’une fanfare entendue au lointain qui sert de support à l’imaginaire et aux souvenirs. En revanche, avec Canto Pianto, elle s’attaque de façon plus frontale à un opéra, L’Orféo de Monteverdi.
