Troïlus et Cressida
Théâtre Éphémère de la Comédie-Française/ de William Shakespeare / mes Jean-Yves Ruf
Après Henri V (1599) et Hamlet (1601), le dramaturge Shakespeare (1564-1616) reste subjugué par le thème de la guerre et sa réflexion sur le destin humain. Récit de guerre et d’amour, Troïlus et Cressida (vers 1602), au style inclassable, est porté au crédit authentique de l’auteur anglais, à la différence d’autres de « ses » pièces. Ce drame en cinq actes entre comédie, drame et farce, a été inspiré par la pièce de Chaucer et par L’Iliade, dans le contexte politique du temps, troublé par l’exécution en 1601 du comte d’Essex qui s’était opposé à la reine. Pour Jean-Yves Ruf, Troïlus et Cressida est une œuvre puissante « au désir charnel omniprésent, où le guerrier scrute le corps de l’ennemi dans lequel il enfoncera sa pointe. » Les héros grecs et troyens démystifiés semblent vaciller et sombrer dans le doute, l’ennui et les rivalités. Qu’advient-il de l’amour, si l’on n’est guère résistant face aux exigences politiques ?
