A 33 ans, le chef russe Tugan Sokhiev, nouveau patron de l’Orchestre national du Capitole de Toulouse après plusieurs décennies sous la direction de Michel Plasson, apparaît dans le paysage musical français comme le plus jeune directeur musical de nos orchestres symphoniques nationaux. L’un des plus doués et respectés aussi… « Lorsque je suis arrivé à Toulouse, j’ai trouvé un orchestre qui était déjà très renommé et qui représentait l’héritage français. Il possédait toutes les qualités des orchestres français, comme par exemple la souplesse ou la transparence. Depuis, il a évolué sur bien des aspects. Tout d’abord, le répertoire s’est agrandi. Ensuite, sur un plan plus technique, nous avons énormément travaillé sur la mise en place rythmique. Aujourd’hui l’orchestre est capable de jouer aussi bien Saint-Saëns et Ravel que Prokofiev et Stravinsky. La palette des couleurs et des sonorités s’est enrichie » explique Sokhiev. Invités de la Salle Pleyel, le jeune chef et ses troupes toulousaines proposent un programme 100 % russe avec deux œuvres majeures de Rachmaninov dans lequel le jeune maestro pourra mettre en valeur sa connaissance profonde de ce répertoire acquise à la source, au Conservatoire et au Théâtre Mariinsky de Saint-Petersbourg : la Rhapsodie sur un thème de Paganini, survolée par le virtuose Denis Matsuev au piano, et les géniales Danses symphoniques.
