Malgré une quarantaine de pièces à son actif, Maguy Marin n’est pas un monument de la danse, une figure immuable, un patrimoine chorégraphique à préserver. Parce que chacune de ses créations nous surprend, elle bouscule à chaque fois les attendus et se faufile là où on ne l’espérait même pas. Exit le consensus depuis Ha ! Ha ! ou les Applaudissements ne se mangent pas. Mais avec Turba, une heure à peine suffit pour rassembler le public autour d’une œuvre aussi étrange que familière, car, malgré la forme, c’est quelque chose d’une humanité touchante qui se diffuse devant nos yeux. Turba, c’est un choc visuel, d’abord, avec le plateau que Maguy Marin encombre de grandes tablées, d’arbres, et d’une eau en continuel écoulement. Avec les danseurs, embarrassés d’une multitude de costumes, de postiches et d’accessoires, comme autant de couches à rajouter au tumulte. Postés en fond de scène comme dans des retranchements, ils s’offrent à la danse par des déplacements fugaces d’avant en arrière, contraints par la surabondance d’objets dans l’espace.
Un voyage dans le temps, une pause dans le tumulte de l’Histoire
De fait, la pièce fait sens par la multitude de signes envoyés par la scénographie, les costumes, le texte, au détriment d’une gestuelle proprement affirmée. Qu’importe. Si le texte de Lucrèce De natura rerum (De la nature des choses) habite complètement la scène, c’est par les déclamations de danseurs, en français, latin allemand, espagnol… qui immanquablement nous projettent dans une Babel intarissable. A défaut, ici, d’être heureuse, elle donne place à des jeunes filles en fleurs comme à des soldats, hallebardiers d’un autre âge ou nazis, un gaulois ou une guitariste. Chacun se fraye un chemin. Chacun porte la pièce, se montre et meurt dans l’attente d’un recommencement. Et, tel que l’indique le titre, la multitude devient amas, masse en transformation qui annonce le tumulte, voire le chaos. Car dans ce ballet extrêmement bien réglé, Maguy Marin n’assène pas d’un coup sa vérité, mais procède par lente désagrégation des éléments qu’elle a mis en présence. Littéralement embarqué dans ce voyage, le spectateur assiste, impuissant, à la déconstruction d’un monde qui pouvait être le sien.
