Avishai Cohen a enfin concrétisé son vieux rêve de transposer ses compositions et ses chansons fétiches à l’échelle d’un orchestre classique. Le contrebassiste star a donné ce répertoire un peu partout dans le monde, et il en a tiré un disque titré « Two Roses », d’après une chanson populaire israélienne. Piochant dans le répertoire de Nat King Cole, la musique cubaine ou parmi les « tubes » qui ont fait son succès (qui combinent l’esprit new-yorkais aux rythmes du Proche-Orient), Cohen a l’ambition d’élaborer, dans cet environnement orchestral, un répertoire qui s’offrirait comme un grand tout où ne comptent plus que la performance, l’émotion et l’expression d’un citoyen du monde qui envisage la musique comme sa seule véritable patrie. Très cinématographique, sa musique met en vedette son trio, désormais formé du pianiste azerbaïdjanais Elchin Shirinov et de la batteuse Roni Kaspi, nouvelle prodige issue de la fertile scène du jazz israélien, accompagnés pour l’occasion, par l’Orchestre national d’Île-de-France.
