Pourquoi avez-vous voulu interpréter le rôle de Krapp ?
Jacques Boudet : Le personnage de Krapp est fascinant par ses multiples aspects contradictoires, un être à la fois pitoyable et sublime, cynique en même temps que sensible et nostalgique, vulgaire et profond. Un véritable challenge pour un comédien contraint de passer de la comédie à la gravité, de l’humour à l’émotion et à la réflexion.
Ce personnage est-il particulièrement riche à cause de sa singulière confrontation avec son passé, à travers les bandes enregistrées ?
J. B. : Cette oeuvre est en effet d’une extraordinaire richesse, tant par son contenu que par la beauté du texte. A travers le bilan du vieux Krapp se développe une quête d’absolu, une recherche de ce « feu » mystérieux, de ce « bon grain » métaphysique, du sens et du non sens de la vie. Ce cheminement spirituel est ici incarné par un individu profondément humain, drôle et bouleversant, un poète et un philosophe qui est aussi un enfant inconsolable à l’humour savoureux !
Qu’est-ce qui distingue cette pièce des autres oeuvres de Beckett selon vous ?
J. B. : Cette pièce a ceci de particulier qu’il s’agit d’un monologue qui est en fait un dialogue du personnage avec lui-même à travers le temps. Grâce à l’enregistrement de son journal intime, il se trouve être à la fois à plusieurs moments de son existence avec toutes les contradictions que cela présente.
Comment s’est passé la rencontre avec le jeune metteur en scène Christophe Gand ?
J. B. : On pourrait croire en prenant connaissance du C.V. de Christophe Gand qui, à 23 ans, a déjà réalisé deux courts-métrages, qu’il s’agit d’un jeune homme pressé alors qu’en réalité c’est un garçon rapide, efficace et très doué. J’ai été impressionné par l’ouverture qu’il manifeste envers cette œuvre de Beckett, a priori fort éloignée des préoccupations d’un homme si jeune. J’ai été très confiant et enthousiaste dès le départ.
