Tout comme Wajdi Mouawad, le narrateur d’Un Obus dans le cœur, Wahab, est né au Liban et a émigré au Canada. Appelé en pleine nuit pour se rendre au chevet de sa mère, qui est en train de mourir à l’hôpital, ce jeune homme de 19 ans se lance dans une confession vibrante, entremêlant présent et passé, rêve et réalité. On retrouve, dans ce monologue théâtral inspiré du roman Visage retrouvé, tous les thèmes chers à l’auteur libano-québécois : l’exil, la guerre, la transmission, la filiation, le passage à l’âge adulte… « Nous avons opté pour une grande sobriété dans la scénographie, confient Jean-Baptiste Epiard et Julien Bleitrach. L’imagination doit être libre de s’exprimer et d’emmener chaque spectateur dans ce voyage au cœur de la nuit et de la guerre du personnage. La pièce mélange une réalité concrète et une poésie hors norme. Tout est vécu par le prisme de Wahab. Tout ce qui l’entoure est rendu par son regard et ses mots. Les moments poétiques et magiques explosent au milieu de la réalité comme des bouées de sauvetage, des bulles d’humour. A chacun donc d’imaginer cette réalité irréelle. »
