Pourquoi ces textes ? Pourquoi ce projet ?
Jean-Louis Hourdin : La découverte de Fanon a été une des plus grandes émotions de ma vie. Peau noire, masques blancs demande aux hommes de repartir, de redémarrer ensemble. Il poursuit en miroir le discours de Michel Deutsch sur l’état des lieux des erreurs de l’Occident. En prologue, nous commençons avec un très beau texte de Jean-Luc Nancy. Le but est de convier les gens à une soirée citoyenne. Juste une servante au milieu de la scène et des comédiens qui se lèvent et parlent, en un rassemblement sensuel autour de la pensée. Ce n’est pas de l’agitprop, mais c’est politique ! Je n’arrive pas à ne pas m’occuper de politique ; je suis ensemble citoyen et homme de théâtre. C’est l’origine du théâtre de parler à la communauté de ce qui la blesse, la piétine, la tue. Il y a vingt ans, j’ai commandé ce grand monologue à Michel Deutsch et finalement, on l’a joué à trente-cinq. Depuis, je l’ai retravaillé avec des stagiaires et aujourd’hui on le reprend, à neuf, en passant beaucoup plus par la musique. C’est devenu une sorte d’oratorio politico-poétique qui refuse ce qu’on fait du monde aujourd’hui.

Que dire du monde d’aujourd’hui ?
J.-L. H. : Les hommes politiques sont devenus des valets convoqués à la table des maîtres. Or, ce n’est pas ça la république ! Il n’est pas possible de laisser ainsi écraser les hommes et piétiner la pensée ! Quelque chose disparaît de la tendresse commune, du « comme un ». La caricature de cela, c’est Berlusconi, un patron élu qui se paie des petites filles pour le fun. Voilà l’Europe et le monde qu’on nous propose. Ça suffit les clowns !
Comment interprétez-vous ces textes ?
J.-L. H. : En composant un chœur pour cette parole. J’essaie d’être le protagoniste qui provoque, la grande gueule de service, celui qui soulève les questions, et le chœur me répond en chantant. De façon plus développée qu’il y a vingt ans, à la création du texte de Michel Deutsch, la musique prend en charge sa dimension politique. Karine Quintana est une des rares musiciennes qui, en les mettant en musique, parvient à mieux faire entendre les textes que si on les parlait. Et puis à la fin du spectacle, on cause avec le public. J’aime cette phrase de Grüber qui dit « la scène appelle au secours autant que la salle ». Que le plateau soit un établi de la pensée, c’est continuer l’origine du débat théâtral. C’est pour ça que j’ai accepté de venir jouer dans le Off, qui n’est pas forcément ma tasse de thé ! Des syndicalistes cheminots et amis sont venus voir le spectacle à Genève et nous ont demandé de venir le jouer à la Bourse du Travail : il y avait une cohérence entre nos engagements et nous avons dit oui !
