Un père esseulé et son fils de douze ans, qui se retrouvent sur la berge d’un fleuve (Fleuve). Un commis voyageur et un jeune marginal, qui lient connaissance dans un bar, près d’une gare (Un verre de crépuscule). Une femme et sa mère qui perd la mémoire, devant la perspective d’une nouvelle vie (Quelque part au milieu de la nuit). Les trois pièces courtes de Daniel Keene que met en scène Didier Bezace tracent les perspectives d’une humanité meurtrie par les heurts du monde et de l’existence. Une humanité contemporaine qui tente, comme elle le peut, d’échapper à la solitude et au désespoir. « Dans chacune de ces trois pièces, explique l’auteur australien, il y a un fossé douloureux, un espace vide et muet entre les personnages ; ce fossé ou cette béance est ce qu’au moins un des deux personnages essaie de franchir ou de combler. » Pour incarner toute la profondeur de ces êtres complexes et fragiles, le directeur du centre dramatique national d’Aubervilliers a fait appel à un groupe de comédiens en tous points remarquables.
Des réalités uniques et indéniables
S’appuyant sur Patrick Catalifo, Sylvie Debrun, Daniel Delabesse, Thierry Levaret et Geneviève Mnich (le rôle du jeune fils, dans Fleuve, est interprété en alternance par Maxime Chevalier-Martinot et Simon Gérin), la mise en scène épurée de Didier Bezace rend compte de façon saisissante de ces trois face-à-face. Quelques éléments de décors et la présence, essentielle, des comédiens au cœur du plateau : ce spectacle d’une grande exigence centre tous ses enjeux sur l’émergence d’une matière humaine forte, obscure, à la violence sourde. Tentant de définir ce qu’est un poème*, Daniel Keene déclare que c’est peut-être « une réponse imaginaire à une question inexistante », ou « une condensation de sens au point de parvenir à une réalité unique et indéniable ». C’est vers cela que semblent tendre les interprètes d’Un soir, une ville… En ouvrant les perspectives singulières de leurs six personnages, ils nous transportent vers les zones théâtrales d’une poésie humaine unique et indéniable.
