Si Un songe d’une nuit d’été fait régulièrement partie des programmations de musique symphonique, on en propose rarement une traduction visuelle. La metteuse en scène Juliette Deschamps se livre à cet exercice original : « En Afrique, j’ai vu un jour à l’extérieur d’un cinéma, deux enfants, deux bateleurs, mimant et rejouant le film – un blockbuster américain – qui était projeté à l’intérieur de la salle. Quelques tréteaux, quelques fripes, quelques accessoires de fortune : ils donnaient devant le cinéma un vrai spectacle parallèle et comique, attirant la foule et les rires des passants et habitants du quartier. Ces bateleurs d’aujourd’hui m’ont fait penser à Shakespeare, aux plus drôles de ses bouffons, et immanquablement au Songe d’une nuit d’été et à son théâtre dans le théâtre. » Le résultat : 56 séances filmées en Angola, diffusées et mixées en direct pendant les représentations sur un grand écran placé derrière l’orchestre de chambre de Paris. Une vidéo qui épouse la musique tout en créant des contrastes entre la joyeuse intrigue de Shakespeare et une Afrique marquée par la guerre.
