Peter Brook dirige sa relecture de La Flûte enchantée avec un bonheur et une aisance qui tutoient la perfection, une admirable maîtrise de chaque effet scénique et cette économie toujours si intelligente de l’espace. Laissant à l’imagination du spectateur la liberté de marier ses visions avec celles que propose le jeu des interprètes, le metteur en scène débarrasse l’opéra de Mozart de toute son imagerie maçonnique et mystique et en fait une belle histoire d’amour et de vertu où le bienveillant Sarastro protège les amours naissantes avec leurs promises respectives du pur et courageux Tamino et celles du romanesque et bavard Papageno.
L’interprétation est particulièrement soignée et offre au public quelques plaisanteries d’une connivence amusée, et la transformation de tout le théâtre en espace de jeu, l’impression d’une relation directe et d’une véritable communion artistique et émotionnelle. Le chant n’est ni sacrifié sur l’autel de l’épure ni amoindri par la réduction de l’orchestre au piano. Le pianiste Franck Krawczyk accompagne ce triomphe de l’amour sur la peur, que guident les comédiens William Nadylam et Abdou Ouologuem avec malice et drôlerie. L’ensemble compose un spectacle jubilatoire, merveilleux de simplicité et d’intelligence.
