Habitué des succès et des fresques historiques, que ce soit avec Le Porteur d’histoire, Le Cercle des illusionnistes ou Edmond, Alexis Michalik innove avec Une histoire d’amour, un mélodrame contemporain créé en janvier 2020. Dans ce spectacle, deux femmes, Katia et Justine, vont avoir un enfant par insémination artificielle mais cette dernière s’enfuit juste avant la naissance du bébé. Quand douze ans plus tard, Katia va mourir, se pose la question de la garde de l’enfant qui pourrait être confiée au grand frère de la jeune femme, un écrivain cynique. Pour Alexis Michalik, qui se demande comment l’amour peut finir, les personnages « vont de l’avant, toujours. Ils font avec, malgré leurs béquilles et leurs blessures. » Une histoire de résilience autant que d’amour.
