L’homme Yona (Philippe Lebas) voulait qu’on ne lui parle que de beauté et de spiritualité tandis que la femme Leviva (Christine Joly) se plaint que son époux ne l’ait entretenue que de harengs. Récriminations et rancoeurs d’un côté, soumission réaliste et responsable, de l’autre. Hanokh Levin ne s’embarrasse pas à enjoliver les jours et les nuits de ses personnages amoindris dans leurs aspirations et tiraillés par une trivialité qui les ramène plus bas que terre, au pied du lit – un repère consensuel dans la vie conjugale de ce couple obstiné dans la mise en scène enjouée de Jean-Pierre Berthomier. Le duo ne cesse de se défaire dans les mots tout en perdurant, grâce à la force lancinante du temps. Tout passe et tout s’use, si ce n’est le sentiment de sa propre détresse et de son abandon personnel. Et souffrir fait mal… L’homme est cruel et cynique, son verbe violent et injuste : « Tu as une paire de fesses. Inutile de te déguiser en esprit supérieur ». Il prétend avoir fait le tour de l’énigme féminine. Dès leur première rencontre, il dit en avoir épuisé le mystère, « un cul qui m’a écrabouillé l’âme ».
Vouloir quelque chose qu’on n’a pas eu et être au monde pour rien
Les liens et les relations se tendent et se délitent : on joue au plus malin comme au plus méchant. Vouloir quelque chose qu’on n’a pas eu et être au monde pour rien. Il suffit qu’un tiers s’introduise entre les deux, comme ce Gounkel (Jean-Pierre Mesnard) pour que la « coalition de la haine » se rétablisse entre les querelleurs chroniques qui ont l’avantage de pouvoir aboyer l’un sur l’autre. Vouloir quelque chose de plus ? La femme s’est fait une raison depuis longtemps : l’existence, si modeste et maladroite soit-elle, laisse la trace d’une affection sentimentale : « C’est ensemble que nous devons achever cette laborieuse entreprise qu’est la vie. » Une affaire avec ses bonheurs, un oiseau dans le ciel, un sourire d’enfant, des preuves du véritable sentiment d’être qui ne s’oublie pas. Un lit et sa couette blanche, un ou deux meubles gris, des vêtements intimes et colorés jonchent le sol en désordre. Des bruits de la ville et klaxons extérieurs pénètrent par vagues dans l’intimité de la chambre. Christine Joly et Philippe Lebas, attachants et drôles, s’abandonnent à l’amusement de la plainte et de la vocifération, au-delà de la complaisance parfois fielleuse du discours. De vraies engueulades.
