« Multiple, inépuisable, contradictoire comme l’être humain ! » C’est ainsi que la metteur en scène Elisabeth Marie caractérise l’écriture de Dostoïevski, d’une finesse psychologique telle qu’elle semble préfigurer la révolution de la psychanalyse. « Dostoïevski est la seule personne qui m’ait appris quelque chose en psychologie » a dit Nietzsche ! Dans La Douce (1876), le narrateur raconte le naufrage de sa vie et tente de comprendre comment le drame a pu advenir. Cet homme d’âge mûr, qui a été chassé de l’armée pour avoir refusé de se battre en duel, a vécu misérablement jusqu’à ce qu’un héritage lui permette de devenir usurier. Il épouse alors une jeune fille de seize ans afin de la sauver d’une extrême pauvreté. Lorsque la pièce commence, le cadavre de son épouse gît, elle s’est défenestrée. « Il se justifie, il l’accuse et se lance en de fausses interprétations » écrit Dostoïevski. Un soliloque introspectif qui suit les méandres contradictoires de la pensée, où le psychisme de l’individu isolé croise les injustices sociales et les désirs de vengeance qui en découlent. La pièce résonne aussi dans notre monde contemporain, où les mariages forcés n’ont pas disparu, où la vulnérabilité des êtres conduit parfois à des comportements inhumains et des processus de destruction. Des voix enregistrées mêlées à des sons et des musiques font entendre des extraits des Démons. C’est Marc-Henri Boisse qui donne corps et voix à cet homme en quête d’une terrible et impossible vérité.
