« Les mots tissent la phrase avec le vide autour, tressent à trois : le temps, l’espace, le souffle ; la chose, la contrechose, le vide entre elles ; le moins, le plus, l’élan du moins envers le plus ; la limaille, l’aimant, l’attraction – ils nouent deux choses avec le vide entre elles qui est le lieu creux de l’amour… » Cet extrait de Devant la Parole renvoie à l’un des aspects les plus troublants des textes de Valère Novarina : une façon de jalonner le champ du monde en mettant en perspective son immatérialité, en le ramenant à ses paradoxes, en dessinant la beauté et les limites de la condition humaine, en incarnant l’homme dans son langage. Il est en effet beaucoup question de ces matières à réflexion dans cette œuvre pittoresque et excessive, facétieuse. Question du monde, de l’homme et de ses perpétuels jeux de miroirs, de ses vertiges, de ses prises de conscience illusoires, de ses postures dérisoires et grotesques. Il est beaucoup question de la vie et de la mort, du vide, de l’éternel et du transitoire. C’est cet univers vaste, à l’humour étincelant, que la Maison de la Poésie a souhaité mettre à l’honneur en cette fin d’année 2008. Un univers qui trouvera diverses formes d’expression à travers une exposition, des lectures(1) (Le Jardin de reconnaissance, Lumières du corps, Pour Louis de Funès, Un temps, deux temps et la moitié d’un temps) et deux propositions scéniques (Le Repas, Devant la Parole).
La puissance de la parole : une obsession de tous les jours
« Le Repas est une orgie théâtrale », explique le metteur en scène Thomas Quillardet. « Rage des mots, folie de l’espace, consécration du désir. C’est un paysage immense qui s’ouvre pour l’acteur et le metteur en scène. Un espace de liberté et de délivrance. La langue de Valère Novarina est poétique bien sûr, mais c’est une poésie concrète, corporelle et buccale, infiniment joyeuse. Cette pièce est une provocation arrogante lancée à l’esprit de sérieux et d’ennui. C’est un cri contre l’incarnation réaliste et naturaliste. » Un cri que six comédiens portent à travers de nombreuses figures : La Mangeuse Ouranique, La Bouche Hélas, L’Enfant d’Outre-bec, Jean qui dévore corps, Le Mangeur d’Ombre, La Personne Creuse, L’Avaleur jamais plus, L’Homme mordant ça… Contrairement au Repas, c’est seul sur scène que Louis Castel investit Devant la Parole. « Périodiquement, le besoin me prend d’aller mettre mes pas dans les mots des poètes qui savent subvertir la langue et le monde, ou plutôt leur rendre leur couleur d’origine », déclare le comédien et metteur en scène. Se plongeant dans les carnets de Valère Novarina, il crée un « précipité théâtral » qui, comme l’a lui-même ressenti l’écrivain, correspond à « un retour au centre, à [son] ornière de tous les jours, à l’obsession dont [il] ne [sort] pas : l’action des langues, l’empire du langage, la puissance de la parole ».
