Le 19 novembre 1968, l’arrestation de Modibo Keïta, premier président de la République du Mali, par Soungalo Samaké, sous-officier parachutiste, met fin à l’expérience socialiste et contribue à l’installation du régime militaire de Moussa Traoré qui dirigera le Mali jusqu’en 1991. Soungalo Samaké aurait pu être un paisible cultivateur mais les hasards de la vie et de l’histoire en ont fait un des maîtres d’œuvre du système répressif du régime autoritaire de son pays. Son récit, édité par Amadou Traoré, ancien responsable du Mali socialiste et lui-même torturé sous ses ordres, éclaire crûment l’histoire moderne des Etats africains et constitue un témoignage unique et inouï. Adaptés par Jean-Louis Sagot-Duvauroux, cofondateur de BlonBa, les mots du capitaine Soungalo Samaké constituent la trame d’un « docufiction théâtral » mis en scène par Patrick Le Mauff et interprété par Adama Bagayoko, Michel Sangaré (qui joue le rôle d’Amadou Traoré), et Maïmouna Doumbia et Diarrah Sanogo, en alternance dans le rôle de Catherine, née des viols de Djikoroni auxquels Soungalo a été mêlé, qui veut comprendre la tragédie qui l’a mise au monde et tente de dissuader l’éditeur de publier ce texte essentiel et dérangeant.
