Voilà déjà une vingtaine d’années que les 26 000 couverts trimballent partout avec eux leur burlesque et leur goût de la satire qui ne laissent rien indemnes. Née dans les rues, sur les foires et marchés où elle a tant fait rire, danser, où elle a lancé à tous d’impossibles défis, la compagnie s’était un temps éloignée de ces lieux publics pour mettre ses fictions délurées à l’épreuve de la salle. Cela pour mieux retourner à la rue. Ce qu’ils font avec Véro 1ère reine d’Angleterre, qu’ils définissent comme un « trait d’union avec les Tournées Fournel (2000) des origines ». Bienvenue chez les Stutman, grands saltimbanques de la vie.
Un mélo de tréteaux
C’est sur son petit campement que nous accueillent les Stutman, famille imaginaire d’artistes forains qui, de génération en génération, traînent leur remorque-scène dans les villes et villages. Ils vont nous jouer le plus connu de leur Mélodrame Stutman : Véro 1ère reine d’Angleterre. Soit l’histoire « – ou plutôt le cauchemar ? – de Véro, l’innocence incarnée, qui n’osait se rêver caissière à Franprix, et qui au terme de multiples rebondissements abrupts et autres péripéties improbables, finira reine d’Angleterre (enfin fini, pas tout à fait…) ».
