On connaît mal en France, voire pas du tout, le Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. Une tournée européenne, ponctuée par un concert parisien au Théâtre des Champs-Elysées en compagnie de la mezzo Vesselina Kasarova, est l’occasion idéale de le découvrir. Fondé en 1968, le LACO est composé de 40 musiciens et considéré comme l’un des meilleurs ensembles américains du genre. Il est engagé dans un projet ambitieux et novateur de démocratisation de la musique classique qui lui a valu à deux reprises d’être lauréat des Adventurous Programming Awards attribués par l’ASCAP (équivalent américain de la Sacem) et par la Ligue des orchestres américains. Sous la houlette de son directeur musical Jeffrey Kahane (natif de L.A. et présent à la tête de l’orchestre depuis 11 ans), le Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra accompagne ce soir la grande mezzo bulgare Vesselina Kasarova, étoile de la troupe du Staatsoper de Munich, dans « Una voce poco fa » extrait du Barbier de Séville et trois airs de La Clémence de Titus. Au même programme, l’orchestre se taille la part du lion et s’exprime dans la Symphonie n°99 de Haydn, l’ouverture de L’Italienne à Alger et Pulcinella de Stravinski.
