Une jeune femme d’Orient se retrouve seule et désespérée dans les rues de Rome. Elle est sauvée du suicide par un journaliste qui publie l’histoire qu’elle veut bien lui raconter sur sa vie. Mais ceux qui l’ont côtoyée refusent à Ersilia Drei le droit de s’inventer une vérité. Vêtir ceux qui sont nus rassemble tous les acteurs du drame de la vie de la jeune femme qui vont se transformer en des ennemis implacables. Une pièce « mélodramatique et violente politiquement » qui réfléchit sur la capacité de la vérité du malheur ordinaire à s’imposer comme récit. Une réflexion d’actualité dans une société qui ne s’intéresse au réel que s’il est aussi séduisant que la fiction. Et une mise en abyme de l’art dans sa capacité « à informer le monde pour le rendre plus beau ».
