Dans Liliom, de Ferenc Molnár, Mère Hollunder est l’un des multiples personnages secondaires sur lesquels l’intrigue s’appuie sans pour cela les mettre en avant. « Elle fait partie de ces anonymes, ces discrets, ces sans-grades, qui n’ont pas d’histoire ou, plutôt, dont on n’imagine même pas qu’ils pourraient avoir une histoire », explique Jacques Hadjaje. C’est le comédien, également auteur, qui interprétait ce personnage dans le spectacle créé par Jean Bellorini, il y a quelques années. Aujourd’hui, il place cette femme simple et libre, malicieuse et revêche, au centre d’une nouvelle création qu’il interprète et dont il signe le texte.
Un hommage aux héroïnes sans gloire
Dans une mise en scène de Jean Bellorini, ce monologue veut « rendre grâce aux héroïnes sans gloire, à celles qui refusent la complaisance et les sanglots, qui disent non sans haine à l’injustice et à la bêtise des hommes ». Concentré de colère, Mère Hollunder ne supporte pas l’idée que les routes soient tracées à l’avance. Elle s’élève contre la fatalité de la misère, l’injustice sociale, la violence faite aux femmes : de façon poétique, décalée, parfois brutale, « comme le ferait un très vieux clown, qui a déjà beaucoup roulé sa bosse et n’hésite pas à dire crûment sa vérité ».
