COUVENT DES RECOLLETS / PIANO ET VIDEO
Cet Islandais de 33 ans, formé à la Juilliard School de New York, est l’une des plus récentes, excitantes et surprenantes signatures du célèbre label Deutsche Grammophon. Son premier enregistrement sous étiquette jaune, paru il y a quelques mois, était consacré aux Études pour piano de Philip Glass, à l’occasion du 80ème anniversaire du compositeur. Vikingur Olafsson décrit la narration musicale du compositeur non pas comme une répétition, comme on a l’habitude de le faire, mais plutôt comme une « renaissance », dans un processus où la musique ne réemprunte pas comme on le croit le même chemin mais se déplace verticalement, en spirale. Encore très peu entendu sur les scènes françaises (on a pu malgré tout l’applaudir récemment au Piano Lille Festival et à La Roque d’Anthéron), Vikingur Olafsson, qui prépare un prochain disque sous étiquette jaune consacré à Bach, présente pour ce récital parisien de la saison des Pianissimes une création autour des Etudes de Glass et des Partitas de Bach conçue avec le concours d’une équipe de vidéastes spécialistes du « mapping ».
