La troupe du Théâtre des Loges, dirigée par Michel Mourtérot, née en 1989 et installée à Pantin depuis 1997 dans un ancien lavoir qu’elle a entièrement aménagé, tout en gardant son désir d’arpenter les routes à la rencontre du public, aime partager le plaisir d’un théâtre à la fois universel et exigeant. Lors de la saison estivale dans le calme d’un village des Pyrénées, c’est toujours un amour militant du théâtre qui les guide et les ressource. Pour l’heure, ils sont à Paris, et proposent une comédie exubérante, satirique et sarcastique, Volpone ou le Renard, la pièce la plus célèbre de Ben Jonson (1572-1637), contemporain du grand William. Maître de la comédie de mœurs élisabéthaine, Ben Jonson fustige ici joyeusement les travers d’une société fondée sur l’appât du gain. La pièce fut adaptée en allemand par Stefan Zweig (création à Vienne en 1926) et en français par Jules Romains (création au Théâtre de l’Atelier en 1928 avec Charles Dullin en Volpone). L’intrigue est simple : escorté du rusé Mosca, le riche seigneur vénitien Volpone feint d’être mourant. Un ballet effréné s’organise alors autour de lui, suscité par l’héritage. Juge véreux, dame à barbe, oiseaux de proie… « Tout un ballet de bêtes, de somme assurément, qui rient, qui crient, qui croassent, qui grincent, s’hérissent… » Un ballet élisabéthain aux résonances bien contemporaines.
