Pauvre Monsieur Tanner, qui hérite d’une vaste maison à retaper, vend son pavillon douillet, oublie quasiment sa femme et se laisse aspirer par les travaux en cours jusqu’à noyer sa vie sous d’insolubles problèmes de tuyauterie, électricité, toiture et autres réparations. Il se laisse embarquer dans ce “paquebot de soucis“ au fil d’un voyage qui n’avance pas, d’un dédale labyrinthique aussi affreusement exigeant qu’angoissant. Car il s’agit d’un monde qu’il ne maîtrise pas, où il manque toujours quelque chose, un monde en forme de chantier infernal et infini qui tue la raison, le désir, et dilapide ses économies. Ce chantier n’évoque pas une errance existentielle ou kafkaïenne mais se vit en tant qu’expérience totalement concrète, traitée sur le mode d’un humour bon enfant au fil d’une galerie de portraits pittoresques, entre couvreurs menteurs et électriciens illuminés. Le ton est léger, divertissant et cocasse, et le spectacle vaut moins par la finesse et les nuances des portraits que par la prestation du comédien Roch-Antoine Albaladejo, qui interprète sans faillir et avec vivacité tous les rôles, entre abattement et folie, et par une mise en scène et une scénographie réglées au millimètre, en parfaite adéquation avec l’univers mental de monsieur Tanner.
Don Quichotte acharné et mal armé
Le metteur en scène David Teysseyre, qui confie avoir passé une année sabbatique destinée à la restauration de sa maison, s’est trouvé des affinités avec “le héros“ de l’histoire et avec l’écriture, qu’il adapte en créant une montée dramatique qui révèle un homme de plus en plus fragile, et un entourage toujours surprenant et déstabilisant. Surtout, la mise en scène prend sens grâce à une scénographie particulièrement réussie et astucieuse, signée aussi David Teysseyre, représentant un chantier à l’absurdité surréaliste, « radeau branlant » instable entre « compression de César et mobile de Calder », reflet métaphorique de l’état mental désastreux de Monsieur Tanner, ainsi définitivement rangé dans la case des Don Quichotte acharnés et mal armés contre le monde. Il se bat et se débat maladroitement contre des problèmes techniques et une foule de gens le plus souvent incompétents, sans maîtriser aucun rouage, ce qui déclenche… sourire ou rire. A voir comme un divertissement plutôt réjouissant.
