Rarement à l’affiche à Paris, Vox Luminis, qui a vu le jour à Namur en 2004, est pourtant un ensemble de tout premier plan, constitué de musiciens tous ou presque issus du Conservatoire Royal de musique de La Haye. Son troisième disque consacré à Heinrich Schütz, « Musicalische Exequien », leur apporte une unanime reconnaissance internationale en recevant, entre autres distinctions, le prestigieux « Gramophone Recording of the Year ». Si c’est un ouvrage français qui était au programme en 2014 de sa première incursion dans le domaine de l’opéra (La troupe d’Orphée de Marc-Antoine Charpentier), Vox Luminis se consacre essentiellement aux répertoires italien et allemand du XVIe au XVIIIe siècle. L’ensemble belge placé sous la direction de son chef Lionel Meunier rapproche dans son programme au Louvre deux œuvres marquant l’avènement du génie de deux compositeurs majeurs nés la même année, en 1685 : Jean-Sébastien Bach et sa cantate Christ lag in Todes Banden BWV 4 et Georg Friedrich Haendel avec son Dixit Dominus HWV 232. Deux œuvres composées en 1707. Bach et Haendel avaient alors 22 ans et l’on ne savait rien encore de ce qu’ils allaient apporter à l’art musical de leur temps…
