Si le répertoire baroque italien, français ou allemand est désormais largement connu, le Portugal au début du XVIIIème siècle, sous le règne de l’équivalent lusophone du Roi Soleil, Jean V – lequel avait fait venir Domenico Scarlatti pour enseigner le clavecin à la Princesse Marie-Barbara –, est un autre creuset musical important, aujourd’hui oublié. Avec son ensemble Divino sospiro, Massimo Mazzeo ressuscite des figures majeures de l’époque comme Carlos de Seixas, l’autre grand maître du clavecin à la cour portugaise, où officiait également l’organiste Francisco António de Almeida, lequel disparut probablement lors de tremblement de terre qui anéantit Lisbonne en 1755. Le concert fera également entendre des pages de la seconde moitié du siècle des Lumières – António da Costa, Pedro António Avondano et João de Sousa Carvalho – tant dans le registre instrumental que vocal, avec le concours de la soprano Ana Vieira Leite.
