« C’est en donnant une lecture publique des Mémoires d’un fou de Flaubert que tout a pris forme. Le roman m’a éclairé sur le prisme par lequel je devais aborder le spectacle. Pour rendre un instantané drôle et tendre de notre monde, de ses nombreuses absurdités sans tomber dans l’écueil du donneur de leçon, le principe de mémoires adressées à un lecteur, en l’occurrence à un spectateur, s’est imposé ; J’avais également trouvé un moteur pour mieux parler de la vie : la mort ». L’auteur, metteur en scène et interprète de ce spectacle, périple intérieur d’une poésie folle, donne forme sensible aux mots de Confucius : « On a deux vies et la deuxième commence quand on se rend compte que l’on n’en a qu’une ». Plongée dans les souvenirs d’un jeune homme qui vient d’apprendre qu’il est atteint d’une maladie incurable, le seul en scène est conçu comme une invitation au voyage. La performance d’acteur embarque le spectateur à travers une écriture très littéraire, des jeux de scène audacieux, des caricatures croustillantes. Le tout mis avec fougue au service de la dénonciation de la bêtise.
