CATHEDRALE NOTRE-DAME DES DOMS / CREATION THEATRALE ET MUSICALE
Arrivé au terme de sa vie, le peintre Simone Martini quitte la cour pontificale d’Avignon pour retrouver Sienne, sa ville natale. Un voyage initiatique dont on ne sait s’il tient au désir de retrouver une femme aimée jadis, à une démarche spirituelle ou artistique : c’est à Sienne, en effet, que l’attend son chef-d’œuvre, la Maesta, vierge en majesté peinte à l’âge de trente ans sur les murs du Palazzo Pubblico. Puisant dans ce vaste poème méditatif, Serge Barbuscia et Isabelle Chauvalon ont conçu un spectacle où les mots passent du récit au chant (le comédien lui-même et la soprano Petra Ahlander), soutenus par les deux orgues de la cathédrale, l’orgue doré italien et l’orgue de chœur, joués par Luc et Lucienne Antonini. Le dialogue des deux instruments délimite un espace musical et théâtral où se déploie le travail de projection des sons et des lumières élaborés par Sébastien Lebert ; l’église, où se trouvent encore des fragments de fresques de Martini, devient ainsi le théâtre imaginaire du peintre. Comme le poème de Mario Luzi, la musique d’Isabelle Chauvalon use d’un langage d’aujourd’hui, un langage personnel pour nous replonger dans l’atmosphère du xive siècle et peindre en musique les sentiments de l’artiste.
