vsprs n’est pas un spectacle hors normes. vsprs n’est pas un spectacle unique en son genre. vsprs n’est pas non plus un spectacle incontournable. Mais ce que vsprs dégage a tout l’air d’une expérience à ne pas manquer, tant il est question d’humanité à travers ce que le corps peut traverser, ou plutôt endurer. Ici, la question de la souffrance s’impose à nos yeux face à ces corps en déliquescence, torturés et tortueux, à l’engagement physique sans concession. Ils partagent un « être ensemble » proche de l’esprit de la communauté, mais savent pour autant garder un petit morceau d’eux-mêmes à l’intérieur d’une transe chorale. L’un tressaute, l’autre se contorsionne, tandis qu’ici ou là les spasmes finissent d’achever l’espoir d’une vie ordinaire. Les sentiments exacerbés sont un mode de communication très prisé chez les chorégraphes des Ballets C. de la B. Là où l’humanité déborde son trop-plein d’impuissance face aux transformations du monde chez Koen Augustijnen, elle semble avec Alain Platel déjà condamnée.

Chez l’un, la musique baroque et le chant sont portés haut, dans une clarté salvatrice qui s’impose en contrepoint de la danse. Chez l’autre, les Vêpres de la Vierge de Monteverdi tentent de porter l’écho d’une liturgie religieuse, mais sont perturbées par les apports manouches de deux musiciens tziganes ou du trio d’improvisation Aka Moon. Pour embarquer littéralement ses danseurs dans l’aventure de vsprs, Alain Platel n’a pas emprunté des chemins détournés : films montrant des malades hystériques de la fin du XIXème siècle, documents de Jean Rouch sur les rituels de transe africaine… Charge aux danseurs, non pas de retranscrire les perturbations sismiques traversées par les corps, mais de rendre palpable l’émotion ressentie face à ces traitements corporels. Attention, la brutalité, la souffrance et l’abandon deviennent à ce point tangibles pour le spectateur qu’une certaine empathie peut provoquer l’adhésion ou le rejet… Une expérience à tenter pour regarder autrement les souffrances du monde.
