Il est celui qui s’est fait (re)connaître en 2010 par le prix du meilleur solo lors des rencontres Danse l’Afrique Danse de Bamako. Ensuite, tout est allé très vite, avec une belle visibilité au Festival d’Avignon (STILL / Life en 2011, et Qaddish en 2013). Depuis, il partage son temps entre Paris et Lagos, où il s’implique dans la formation et le soutien à divers projets artistiques. Sa nouvelle pièce de groupe, dans laquelle il danse aussi lui-même, reflète sa conception de la danse, aux prises avec un monde qui souvent va trop vite, qui se questionne sur son histoire, ses luttes, ses blessures. Qudus Onikeku fait de We almost forgot le réceptacle de témoignages et d’histoires personnelles contrariées par des traumatismes. Les conflits d’Afrique vécus de près ou de loin par le chorégraphe sont présents, mais celui-ci emporte son travail vers l’universalité, travaillant la question de la mémoire du corps chez ses sept interprètes, et consolidant leur présence grâce à une narratrice-conteuse.
