PHILHARMONIE DE PARIS / JAZZ
En dépit des défis économiques qu’ils font peser sur leurs maîtres d’œuvre, les formations de jazz de grande dimension – celles qu’on appelait naguère « big bands », terme aujourd’hui souvent délaissé – continuent de susciter un engouement remarquable chez les musiciens. Le dynamisme de la fédération Grands Formats témoigne bien, en France, de ce phénomène. Quatre formations, trois françaises et une américaine, sont attendues lors de ces deux concerts. L’Orchestre National de Jazz (voir le gros plan consacré à la formation dirigée par Frédéric Maurin dans ce même numéro) partage la première soirée avec le Red Desert Orchestra de la pianiste Eve Risser, qui présentera la musique de son nouveau répertoire « Eurythmia » imprégné par la rencontre récente et marquante de la leader avec les musiques du Mali (le 8 à 20h30).
Un engouement remarquable
Événement le lendemain avec la venue du Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, formation de rêve inventée il y a trente ans à New York par Wynton Marsalis pour revisiter et éclairer avec vitalité l’histoire du jazz. La luxueuse et virtuose formation du trompettiste américain sera précédée sur scène par le Umlaut Big Band de Pierre-Antoine Badaroux, spécialiste du jazz des années 20-40, pour un hommage inédit à Mary Lou Williams conçu à partir de manuscrits de l’artiste (le 9 à 20h30).
