Ancien élève de Claude Helffer au CNSM de Paris (mais aussi d’Yvonne Loriod-Messiaen et Pierre-Laurent Aimard), Premier Prix du Concours International de Piano d’Orléans en 2006, Wilhem Latchoumia est un incontestable spécialiste de la musique contemporaine. Il dénote surtout comme un musicien classique d’une grande liberté, adepte de répertoires et programmes originaux. Sa discographie, souvent sur le label La Dolce Volta, qui a musardé du côté de Wagner, Villa-Lobos, Ginastera, Miroslav Srnka ou de Falla, qui ne comptent pas vraiment parmi les compositeurs les plus enregistrés, témoigne de sa curiosité et de son audace. Aujourd’hui il surprend encore en se tournant vers ses racines martiniquaises à travers un dialogue qu’il inaugure avec un autre pianiste de premier plan, grande figure du jazz caribéen bien connu pour sa participation au groupe Ultramarine, Mario Canonge. Wilhem Latchoumia et Mario Canonge voueront leur dialogue à l’exploration de partitions de Chevalier de Saint-George (1745-1799), compositeur guadeloupéen, Darius Milhaud, Louis Moreau Gottschalk et Thierry Pécou.
