Théâtre du Châtelet
C’est à l’occasion de « Place à l’Afrique », une semaine conçue par le Théâtre de la Ville, que James BKS invite de nombreux artistes (Salatiel, Nomcebo, Stanley Enow, Anna Kova, Benjamin Epps, Gracy Hopkins…) afin de mettre à l’honneur la « bantu music ». Celui qui se rêvait basketteur pro et dont le père biologique n’est autre que Manu Dibango a commencé en qualité de beatmaker, œuvrant aux États-Unis notamment pour Snoop Dogg et Akon, avant de s’installer en France et choisir progressivement une autre voie. Il franchit définitivement le pas en s’associant avec ce père qui lui fut révélé sur le tard, retrouvant la terre de ses origines, le Cameroun. James BKS en reviendra transformé, et c’est cette histoire qu’il nous conte ce soir avec son New Breed Band, un voyage initiatique où la pop croise le hip-hop, les rythmes ancestraux d’autres connections.
