Création collective mobilisant les énergies de ceux qui la travaillent comme de ceux qui l’écoutent, Words Are WAtching You – WAWY, comme la soupe – invite à la vigilance face au pouvoir des mots au service du pouvoir, face à la perversion du langage déterminant puissamment et sournoisement nos représentations de la réalité. Certes, dans nos chères démocraties, le pouvoir de représentants élus par les citoyens demeure éloigné de l’arbitraire et du danger propres aux dictatures, mais ceux qui ont connu l’Europe à la veille de la seconde guerre mondiale savent à quel point le basculement dans l’horreur advient beaucoup plus facilement que l’on croit. Et chacun sait que le rapport à la réalité – avec ou sans wikileaks ! – est parfois complexe à penser et formuler. La scène d’un théâtre demeure un bon endroit pour se pencher sur la question… C’est la lecture de 1984 de George Orwell qui a engagé l’Idiomécanic Théâtre dans cette réflexion sur les mécanismes d’endoctrinement et de lavage du cerveau, dans un processus de travail visant à inventer pour la scène leur 1984. Nous sommes au Minimot – le Ministère du Mot -, là où s’écrit le dictionnaire novlangue, là où les mots jugés dangereux disparaissent, là où s’affairent des employés zélés et trône Big Mother. Un théâtre qui rend hommage à la belle idée d’émancipation !
