Présenter Xerxès de Haendel par Spinosi à Versailles, c’est d’abord évoquer le retour d’une équipe fabuleuse qui, en juillet 2012, lors d’une interprétation en version de concert souleva d’enthousiasme le public de l’Opéra Royal, comme elle l’avait fait quelques mois auparavant à Vienne. Un événement qui devait beaucoup au tempérament de feu de la célèbre mezzo suédoise Malena Ernman, véritable incarnation du personnage auquel elle sait donner vie avec un relief et un sens de la scène rares. Trois ans plus tard, l’ouvrage retrouve, sous la baguette de Spinosi qui n’est jamais aussi convaincant que dans ses habits de chef d’opéra et de spécialiste de Haendel, dans la fosse l’Ensemble Matheus, et sur scène les voix de Loa Falkman, David DQ Lee, Kerstin Avemo, Hanna Husahr, Ivonne Fuchs, Jakob Zethner et bien sûr Malena Ernman. Le suédois Lars Rudolfsson signe la mise en scène.
