On met parfois une vie à se défaire du cadeau magnifique de composer un tube planétaire. Ce que fut « New Soul » en 2007, mélodie enchanteresse au charme Seventies, propulsée en tête des tops et vite accaparée par Apple pour ses pubs du MacBook Air… « I’m a new soul I came to this strange world hoping I could learn a bit about how to give and take » chantait-elle alors… Sept ans et trois albums plus tard, elle semble n’avoir jamais cessé d’apprendre et de chercher – de la vie, de la mort, de l’amour et de la musique – pour en tirer le meilleur… « Older », son quatrième album personnel paru il y a quelques mois, témoigne avec justesse, simplicité et grâce, de l’inspiration intacte de la jeune chanteuse franco-israélienne, musicienne dans l’âme. Dans ce nouvel opus, mais aussi sur scène où elle est comme un poisson dans l’eau, Yael Naïm semble même exister aujourd’hui avec un surcroît de confiance et d’expressivité, jouant à la perfection de son art de songwriter et de mélodiste, d’une voix comme libérée – mutine ou profonde, tour à tour -, et de la cruciale complicité avec le percussionniste David Donatien, son alter ego à la scène et son compagnon à la ville… Une magnifique artiste populaire, dans la plus belle expression du terme.
