Jalila Baccar et Fadhel Jaibi se sont ouvertement opposés au pouvoir tunisien pendant des années. Celui-ci ne les a tolérés qu’en raison de leur renommée internationale et pour se donner des airs de démocratie.
Leur précédente création, Corps otages, avait été victime de la censure d’Etat. Il y était question d’une femme devenant terroriste kamikaze. Créée à l’Odéon, la pièce avait frappé (fort). Yahia Yaïch -Amnesia, en revanche, créée en avril 2010, n’a pas été interdite, et à peine retouchée. Pourtant, elle est tout aussi frontale. Son personnage principal, Yahia Yaïch, est un dirigeant qui connaît une destitution politique soudaine, et par effets de dominos une déchéance sur les plans civique, physique, social, familial… Et bien que cet homme soit le numéro deux d’un régime jamais nommé, la situation politique et sociale de la Tunisie contemporaine s’y reconnaît aisément. Entre rêve et cauchemar, la fiction explore à travers sa chute les mécanismes universels du pouvoir, et plus particulièrement ceux du pouvoir autocratique. Mais le tyran devenant paria, coincé entre les rancœurs légitimes mais un peu lâches de la population et les persécutions violentes du régime qui est resté en place, peut-être le censeur l’a-t-il trouvé sympathique. En fait cette apparence bienveillante, comme celle du régime tunisien, constitue sans doute la part la plus cruelle de son pouvoir.
Dépouillement et intensité
D’une entame sans paroles, vingt minutes durant, à un final où s’expliquent enfin les images les plus cauchemardesques de la fin de Yaïch, jamais la tension dramatique d’Amnesia ne fléchit. L’action laisse le spectateur travailler sans cesse à la construction du sens de la fable et de sa portée métaphorique et les renversements se multiplient au gré d’inventions scéniques simples et surprenantes. Les personnages – famille, collaborateurs, médecins, syndicalistes… – se diffractent en des traitements tour à tour réalistes, mécaniques, burlesques. Tout est instable, presque irréel, laissant percevoir combien il est difficile de se définir pour l’individu, mais aussi combien la privation de liberté agit sur les êtres et la réalité. Avec Amnesia, il est en effet question des rouages de la dictature, parmi lesquels l’effacement scrupuleusement entretenu de toute mémoire autre qu’officielle, qui fonde la brutalité et l’assise du pouvoir. Il faut dire que pour mettre à nu les procédés de fabrication de l’illusion, l’art dramatique est naturellement doué. Et que celui de Jalila Baccar et Fadhel Jaïbi – et de leur troupe – tout en dépouillement et en intensité, est d’une puissance rarement égalée.
