« Je suis seul, je suis malheureux, je suis anéanti, je deviens fou, je n’ai pas de femme parce que je suis laid, et je suis trop pauvre pour faire oublier que je suis trop laid », lâche Yakich, crochetant d’un cri rageur le ciel noir de son patelin paumé en lande israélienne. Profil ingrat, silhouette avachie et un bien mesquin comme héritage, le jouvenceau n’a que la conscience de son malheur et l’ennui d’une existence bourrée de rêves sucrés pour assouvir ses sens en éruption. Heureusement, un marieur désœuvré, opticien par métier, a dans le stock des invendues un tendron aussi moche que lui. Après de sonnantes négociations avec les parents des deux parties, voilà l’affaire conclue et les rejetons menés en pompeux cortège au mariage. Le bonheur aurait pu babiller enfin, sauf que « l’aiguille » de Yakich reste bloquée à « six heures » dédaignant les charmes endormis de Poupatchée. Même la laideur a droit d’aspirer à la séduction…
Ils sont pauvres, laids, mais jeunes et plein d’espoirs
Tirant les fils de cette situation drôlement désespérée, Hanokh Levin embarque sa noce désastreuse dans une folle cavale nocturne, qui échoue d’une gare à l’autre, d’un bordel interlope en château fantasmatique, de Platchki en Ploutchki, en quête d’un atour féminin qui pourrait stimuler la mécanique ramollo du jeune homme. Foireuse, cruellement bouffonne, cette fable catastrophique croque joyeusement l’écrasant bonheur taillé selon les normes sociales et les espoirs de conte de fée, l’attendrissante tragédie égotique des êtres et la trivialité de l’humain, qui malgré tout, contre tout, aspire à la beauté. Le metteur en Frédéric Bélier-Garcia a su révéler tous les reliefs du texte où, au cœur de la langue, la crudité s’acoquine au lyrisme du quotidien, aussi abrupte que flamboyant. La scénographie et les costumes de Sophie Perez et Xavier Boussiron, qui dévoilent le kitsch grotesque des ambitions communes, servent à point l’ironie cinglante et amère d’Hanokh Levin. Quant aux acteurs, c’est un pur plaisir…
