« Yaron Herman est l’un des pianistes les plus étonnants que l’on puisse entendre en ce moment. Une énergie rageuse, un tempérament de feu, des paysages sonores insolites… Le public, chaque fois, en reste pantois » s’enthousiasme et résume son aîné Laurent Cugny, pianiste, compositeur, ex-directeur musical de l’ONJ et historien du jazz. Né en juillet 1981 à Tel-Aviv, Yaron Herman commence le piano à l’âge de 16 ans et parvient en quelques années, au terme d’une progression fulgurante, à atteindre un niveau exceptionnel qui lui ouvre les portes la Berklee College School of Music de Boston. Un établissement très « compétitif » qui ne lui convient pas et le décide à rentrer à Tel-Aviv deux mois plus tard ! Sur le chemin du retour, il fait une halte à Paris qui ne tardera pas à lui tendre les bras et le retenir… Peu après, il reçoit le Trophée « Nouveaux talents » du Sunside puis enregistre, à l’âge de 21 ans, son premier album : « Takes 2 to know 1 » chez Sketch. Une révélation… Yaron Herman a l’originalité de développer une théorie musicale de l’improvisation appelée « Real Time Composition » où “philosophie“ et mathématiques se rejoignent. Dans son dernier album en trio (« A Time for everything » chez Laborie Jazz/Naïve), les compositions de Björk, Sting ou Scriabine cohabitent joyeusement, emportées dans la même fièvre d’un swing iconoclaste, moderne et renversant. Un bouffée d’oxygène et d’invention souffle sur le jazz…
