Dans les pas de grands pairs tels le génial Naftule Brandwein ou l’argentin Giora Feidman, le clarinettiste auto-proclamé « nouveau roi du klezmer » pratique de longue date les rencontres et l’ouverture à d’autres registres… Avec la guimbarde de Wang Li, avec l’accordéoniste breton Janick Martin, sans oublier les Wonder Rabbis, ou encore ces jours-ci avec son hommage à l’americana qu’il publie sous le titre « Songs For The Old Man ». Parce que pour lui, « le klezmer s’est toujours nourri des apports alentour, de l’autre. Le principe de la rencontre est le fondement même de cette musique ». Pour preuve, Le Silence de l’Exode, programme commandé par le festival d’Ile de France en 2012, conçu comme un voyage en double miroir, entre puissante ancestralité et étonnante modernité. Passé, présent, futur, Yom conjugue la tradition au pluriel de ses subjectifs dans cette partition oblique, traversée onirique où il peut compter sur des compagnons au diapason de ses intentions : le contrebassiste Claude Tchamitchian, pilier du jazz hexagonal, le violoncelliste Farid D., dont les cordes se situent entre l’Occident et l’Orient, le percussionniste Bijan Chemirani, érudit de la tradition persane qui a constamment cherché le dialogue avec l’autre.
