Quel est le projet du Théâtre « Okolo Doma Stanislavski », c’est-à-dire « à côté de la maison de Stanislavski » ?
J’ai rejoint ce théâtre à Moscou en 1987, à l’époque de la pérestroïka, pour développer mes idées théâtrales. J’y travaille le répertoire, notamment Tchékhov ou Dostoïevski, avec ma troupe permanente. J’ai également créé un atelier artistique, qui accueille de jeunes comédiens issus de l’école supérieure de théâtre. J’essaie de leur transmettre ce que j’ai appris, notamment à travers Stanislavski et Grotowski, et, plus précieux que la technique, de les amener à trouver le sens de leur métier et de leurs actes.
Pourquoi avez-vous choisi la pièce de Volodine ?
A travers des saynètes apparemment ordinaires, issues des chroniques quotidiennes d’un tribunal examinant des requêtes de divorce, Volodine saisit toute la réalité de l’expérience humaine. Ces gens, perdus dans leur propre souffrance, ne savent plus le sens du mariage, de la famille, de la trahison. J’ai inséré quelques pages, plus cérébrales, de Crime et Châtiment de Dostoïevski, pour faire résonner les échos métaphysiques du texte, très concret, parfois comique et prosaïque, de Volodine. Cette pièce offre en outre une belle partition pour faire travailler les comédiens de l’ERAC.

Comment abordez-vous le texte ?
Nous avons essayé de le chausser à nos pieds, c’est-à-dire de mettre les mots en mouvement en nous laissant guider par le courant de la parole. Il ne s’agit pas de « diriger » les comédiens ni d’interpréter mais de faire affleurer à travers les corps les enjeux que le texte porte en lui-même. Comment avez-vous travaillé avec les élèves de l’ERAC ?
Le but de mon enseignement est de leur apprendre à trouver la justesse, au théâtre comme dans la vie. Autrement dit, à se débarrasser des habitus et des réactions machinales qui formatent leurs attitudes et leurs relations pour parvenir à être pleinement attentif, dans le moment présent. Le processus s’appuie notamment sur des exercices qui développent l’attention. Ma méthode cherche à mettre en parallèle, en harmonie, le travail sur soi-même et sur le rôle. Le théâtre, c’est le chemin.
